AN OPERA WORLD PREMIÈRE: FLAUBERT & VOLTAIRE

A believer in the vitality of the genre, Peralada will be premièring new titles. And as is traditional, the Festival has commissioned a new opera, this time from French composer Philippe Fénelon, author, among other works, of operas such as Salammbô, Faust and JRR, citoyen de Genève. Three characters are the stars of Flaubert & Voltaire, this year's world première. Defined as opera-theatre that brings to mind these two illustrious names, the work presents a historic confrontation projected on to the relationship between a writer, Gustave, and his two chambermaids, Candide and Alphonse, who talk to him about everyday life. But do these two maids really exist or are they just figures that follow Gustave in his dreams? The response to Flaubert & Voltaire, a Festival Castell de Peralada and Vox 21 co-production.
