FESTIVAL 2009 · Cançó al capvespre

The Festival Castell de Peralada could not fail to pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Cançó Catalana, the movement that burst forth in the midst of the Franco regime to demand the normalisation of the language of Pompeu Fabra. To mark this anniversary, and with the collaboration of Pere Camps, the Festival will feature some of the leading singer-songwriters, who will recall the impetus that was driven in the early 1960s by Els Setze Jutjes. Consequently, August in the Empordà will see five concerts inspired by the Nova Cançó and featuring key artists in the genre. The curtain will be raised on 4th August by Sílvia Comes, whose brilliant career and works touch directly on the heart. She will be followed by Miquel Gil, a genius of Mediterranean inspiration who will be performing alongside Manel Camp, a multi-faceted creator of dreams equally at home with jazz, rock and, of course, cançó. Esther Formosa, a unique singer whose art is expanded by her theatrical training, will act with the support of pianist and arranger Maurici Villavecchia. One of Catalonia’s home-grown singer-songwriters and guitarists of a more personal talent, Xavier Baró will be performing solo. Finally, Dani Flaco, a rising star with a more than promising future, will bring the Cançó at the end of the evening season to a close, an offering to the Cançó Catalana.
