The traditional Festival concert proposes an unusual take on cobla music based around the Sardana. Its creators define this musical menu, inspired by traditional Catalan dance, as “a bold move, another step on the road towards decontextualising form and introducing it to new languages”, following in the footsteps of dancer Teresa Boronat, who, in 1937, gave a solo performance of a Sardana at the Pleyel Hall in Paris. It was the quest for a utopia: classical Catalan ballet. In part two, this concert bonds with Boronat’s spirit through the performance of Sardanas from different aesthetics, since, in part one, as is only logical this year, the Festival Castell de Peralada is celebrating the centenary of the Costa Brava name based on music inspired by the famous counties of Girona. |
