With music by Enrique Morente and directed by Miguel Narros, one of the masterpieces of classical theatre, one of the dreams of any great dame of the stage, comes to Peralada after opening the Mérida Festival. The bailaora Lola Greco is responsible for breathing life into this self-destructive character, the epicentre of one of the most fascinating tragedies of western myths and now turned into a Flamenco opera of unknown dimensions. In the words of the stage director “the characters who take part in this story are of gypsy ethnicity: a father, a son and a wife who doesn’t accept her status as a woman.” This is an adaptation that has a great deal to do with a social, modern and contemporary reality. The passion of Greek tragedy, of Euripides and Seneca, the same that seduced Racine, now with the vibrancy of Flamenco.
