FESTIVAL 2009 · Cycle of Q+ Quartets

As every year, the warm welcoming atmosphere of the Iglesia del Carmen church will host the most intimate evenings on the Festival programme. The string quartet, that invention of Haydn’s that would enjoy such illustrious followers the length and breadth of Classicism and Romanticism, will be the most widely featured musical form in the chamber music offer at the 23rd edition of the Festival Castell de Peralada; such formations as the Quartet Quixote, Quartet Lotus, Quartet Ardeo, Cuarteto Toldrà and the Artis Íter group, as well as soloists from the Martinu Ensemble, will be the main artists at six recitals in which young musicians such as flautist Cristina Granero, clarinettist Ona Cardona, pianist Judith Jáuregui and guitarist Paola Requena will also take part. The mouth-watering offer from the Iglesia del Carmen church is rounded off with an evening with Aragonese pianist Juan Fernando Moreno Gistaín, who will be bringing to life the points in common between Isaac Albéniz and Claude Debussy, two late-nineteenth-century greats, whose careers, in many senses, took parallel paths.
