SPECIAL EVENING WITH JOSEP CARRERAS

SPECIAL EVENING WITH JOSEP CARRERAS
THE NIGHT OF JOSEP CARRERAS

Josep Carreras is a legend in the world of lyrical singing. His performances are always notable for their elegance and the tenor’s technical proficiency. Throughout his long and successful career, he has sung in some of the most important opera houses and festivals in the world and has collaborated with the most prestigious orchestra and stage directors. Josep Carreras is one of this Festival’s most admired and beloved artists; he was the protagonist of one of the most magical nights in this Festival’s history, the night of 13 August 1988, when he starred in a concert signalling his return to the stage after successfully recovering from a drawn-out fight against leukaemia. The concert was broadcast on forty TV stations worldwide so that everyone could enjoy this historical moment. At Peralada he also debuted in his role as Samson in Saint-Saëns’ Samson et Dalia. The concerts of the three tenors, starring Josep Carreras and his colleagues Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti, have already attained the status of legend, having been followed by billions of spectators all over the world, an unprecedented success in the world of lyrical singing. Another of the many things this great artist is known for is his humanitarian work. Since 1988, in tandem with his professional work, he has been an enthusiastic and committed head of the Josep Carreras International Foundation for the Fight against Leukaemia, which was founded in Barcelona and now has headquarters in the United States, Switzerland and Germany. This Foundation is today, without doubt, one of his top priorities. Josep Carreras now returns to the stage with the Symphonic Orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu directed by David Giménez to celebrate the career of one of our most beloved local tenors.
