Soprano Csilla Boross will be Maddalena di Coigny in the new opera production of the Castell de Peralada Festival: Andrea Chénier

Singer Eva-Maria Westboek has cancelled her participation in the performance of Andrea Chénier to be staged on 26 July as part of the 28th Castell de Peralada Festival. The organisers would like to apologise for this change and are pleased to announce the début of Hungarian soprano Csilla Boross in Spain. The soprano will be performing the role of Madalena di Coigny, alongside tenor Marcelo Álvarez and baritone Carlos Álvarez, under the baton of Marco Armiliato with the Orchestra and Chorus of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, in the new production by the Festival and ABAO-OLBE directed by Alfonso Romero-Mora.

Csilla Boross has emerged in recent seasons as a leading spinto soprano and has been acclaimed in such theatres as the Opera di Roma and the Opéra de Lyon and at the Ravenna and Savolina festivals. She was also chosen by Riccardo Muti to sing Abigaille in Verdi's Nabucco (2011) at the Opera di Roma as part of the performances to mark the 150th anniversary of the unity of Italy. Muti also directed her as Lucrezia in The Two Foscari by Verdi in the 2012-2013 season at the Opera di Roma. She has also sung Tosca by Puccini at the Caracalla in Rome and Manom Lescaut by Puccini at the Opéra de Montpellier.

Last June saw her début in the role of Bellini's Norma at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, and this summer she will be making her début at the Castell de Peralada Festival.
