Verdi’s Otello becomes the star event of the 2015 Festival

Indeed, the star show of the 2015 Festival was the premiere of the opera Otello, by Verdi. A new production at Peralada which in this case was a joint effort with the Macerata Opera Festival. This Otello featured a luxury cast that can only be found in the world’s finest theatres: tenor Gregory Kunde, soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek and baritone Carlos Álvarez. With music conducted by Ricardo Frizza, stage direction by Paco Azorín and a stage set of Kilometer 0, which was built in workshops in the Alt Empordà Region and at the Festival itself, more than 250 professionals took part in the staging of Otello. This opera was hailed by audiences and critics alike. Catalunya Música recorded the opera and has promoted this premiere throughout the European Broadcasting Union, enabling listeners to enjoy the entire work in many different countries around Europe and in the United States.
A private initiative, the Castell de Peralada Festival has once again displayed its belief in and commitment to the creations from here at home. This Otello will be playing at the Teatre Calderón in Valladolid in the upcoming month of February, and from there it will be moving on to the Macerata Opera Festival, in Italy, in the summer.
As of today, work is already underway for next year’s edition, which will be particularly special, as it marks the XXX anniversary of the Festival. A celebration that aims to commemorate the audience that has stood by us for these three decades.
