Peralada, 30 years in images
The Palau Robert presents a selection of photographs that record some of the highlights of the 30 years of history of the Castell de Peralada Festival, shown in an exhibition open to visitors from 14 April to 15 May in the palace’s Gardens.
The exhibition “Peralada: Thirty Years in Images”, curated by Laia Tous and Núria Pujol, opens with a portal by Joan Matabosch, artistic director of the Teatro Real in Madrid, which details the history of the Festival and its role on the international scene. Organised as a celebration to mark the Festival’s 30th anniversary, it also features 46 images that look back at the leading performances and artists who have appeared at the Festival, at which lyric singing and dance form the central part of the programme. The images displayed were taken by the photographers Josep Aznar, Miquel González, Toti Ferrer, Jordi Mestre and Jordi Ribot.
The Festival’s history includes opera singers of the standing of Plácido Domingo, Montserrat Caballé, Victoria de los Ángeles, Jaume Aragall, Jonas Kaufmann and Leo Nucci; dancers such as Julio Bocca, Ángel Corella and Sara Baras; opera productions that include Orfeu i Eurídice, Otello and Andrea Chénier; leading orchestras and conductors; and international ballet companies.
The final part of the exhibition features the collection of posters commissioned by the Festival from artists such as Jaume Plensa, Antonio Saura, Javier Mariscal and Perico Pastor, as well as a panel of press clippings from La Vanguardia newspaper on the event.
The Festival began in 1984 with the Summer Musical Galas and grew into the Castell de Peralada Festival in 1987. During the course of these 30 years, 50 operas and almost 200 concerts, as well as dance and chamber and contemporary music concerts, have all been programmed.
After the exhibition closes in Palau Robert, it will be displayed this summer in the Gardens of the Peralada Castle.
