CASTELL DE PERALADA FESTIVAL IS OFFERING THREE OPERAS PRODUCED IN-HOUSE ON ITS WEBSITE

Castell de Peralada Festival aims to bring opera to the public during the lockdown by offering three operas that premièred at the festival in recent years.

In light of the health emergency due to the spread of the coronavirus that is forcing the lockdown to continue, Castell de Peralada Festival is offering three digital broadcasts on this website. From Friday 3 April and throughout the whole of the lockdown, the festival wants to continue to share its passion for opera by offering its users three complete operas, in open broadcast and for free.
This way, audiences are offered the chance to be able to enjoy at home three of the festival’s in-house productions that premièred in recent years: Combattimento, with music by Claudio Monteverdi, and stage direction by Joan Anton Rechi and conducted by Fausto Nardi (2016); Turandot, by Giacomo Puccini, with stage direction by Mario Gas and with Giampaolo Bisanti on the podium (2016); and La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi, with stage direction and staging by Paco Azorín and conducted by Riccardo Frizza (2019).
With this audiovisual content, the festival is joining in with the various initiatives in the arts sector throughout the country to make the lockdown easier through the arts, opera, music and theatre.

About Combattimento:
Premièred on 1 August 2016 in the Carme Cloister, Combattimento. Love and Struggles in the Madrigals of Monteverdi is a small-format opera directed by stage director Joan Anton Rechi and with Fausto Nardi

conducting Vespres D'Arnadí. With the voices of Sara Blanch, Anna Alàs, David Alegret and Víctor Sordo, Combattimento is a poetic circle inspired by the music of Monteverdi. A desperate search for love that, when found, becomes confrontation through small musical gems that speak to us of relationships, the mysteries of love, of falling in love and asserting oneself on the other person, of trying to overcome them, of losing them... To discover that we cannot live without them.

About Turandot:
Premièred on 6 August 2016 in the Castle Park Auditorium, Turandot is the festival's third home-grown opera and marks the return to Peralada of theatre director Mario Gas with an opera production. Singers Iréne Theorín, Roberto Aronica, Maria Katzarova and Andrea Mastroni performed the lead roles in a production that also featured the Coro Intermezzo. Puccini’s tragic and sensual score, capable of getting to the very heart of the audience’s human passions simply through his music, was performed by the Orquestra Simfònica del Gran Teatre del Liceu under conductor Giampaolo Bisanti.

About La Traviata:
On 5 August 2019, in the Castle Park Auditorium, Paco Azorín presented Verdi’s La Traviata, conducted by Riccardo Frizza. A new Festival Castell de Peralada production, also constructed in the workshops of the Alt Empordà and that featured an international cast led by Ekaterina Bakanova, René Barbera and Quinn Kelsey, as well as the participation of the Orquestra Simfònica del Gran Teatre del Liceu and conductor José Luis Basso at the helm of the Coro Intermezzo. A new production that seeks to get away from stereotypes and offer a 180-degree turn to see and enjoy this love story from a new perspective and become a hymn to love and liberty.

We hope you enjoy these three shows from your own home. The curtain raises!
