HOUSTON BALLET CANCEL THE TOUR

Houston Ballet cancels its international tour because of the coronavirus. The North American company was to open this year's Festival Castell de Peralada on 2 and 3 July.

Classical dance company Houston Ballet has decided to bring its 2019-2020 season to a close, including the performances scheduled for this summer on the international tour to mark its 50th anniversary.

Led by prestigious Australian choreographer Stanton Welch, Houston Ballet was to make its début in Catalonia on the evenings of 2 and 3 July, coinciding with the opening of the 34th edition of the Festival Castell de Peralada with a double programme.
Defined as a classical dance company with a diverse choreographic style created from excellence, it was to appear at the Empordà festival with Triple Bill, which included the choreographies Clear and Nosotros by Welch and In Dreams, created by Trey McIntyre to the music of Roy Orbison. The next day was to see the staging in the Castle Gardens Auditorium of the complete ballet of Sons de l’Âme, a hypnotic choreography by Welch with music by Frederic Chopin, which premièred on 31 October 2013 at the Théâtre des Champs Élysées in Paris alongside piano virtuoso Lang Lang.
With this double programme, Houston Ballet was to close its international tour after performing at various Spanish venues.
The Festival Castell de Peralada will start refunding tickets today and over the following days. The cost of all tickets bought in advance on the festival website and through other official channels will be automatically refunded.
