CANCELLED THE PERFORMANCES BY THE MARIINSKY THEATRE BALLET

The St. Petersburg dance company was due to open the 36th edition of Festival Castell de Peralada with two performances on the evenings of 8 and 9 July.

Due to the current situation and context marked by the armed conflict in Europe, Festival Castell de Peralada is cancelling the performances by the Mariinsky Theatre Ballet, scheduled to take place on 8 and 9 July 2022 as part of the 36th edition of the festival. The cancellation is a demonstration of mobilisation and a call for an immediate end to the conflict, joining the majority of European theatres and festivals in their outcry against the war. In this sense, the festival stresses the need for artistic institutions and their leadership to take a clear stance against war and a commitment to peace.

Festival Castell de Peralada thereby expresses its commitment to the defence of peace among all peoples and nations of the world and its rejection of any violation of human rights. The festival also expresses its solidarity with all those who are suffering the consequences of the war, and especially with all the artists and theatres that are affected by this situation.

With the conviction that the arts and culture must contribute to making this world a better place, Festival Castell de Peralada also hopes that a century-old and such an artistically prestigious and relevant institution as the Mariinsky Theatre of St. Petersburg may soon return to stages around the world because, in that case, it would mark the return of peace in Europe.

In the next 24/48 hours, the organisation will start the automatic refund of all tickets sold to date.
