Jonah Hoskins substitutes Xabier Anduaga
The American tenor Jonah Hoskins (Saratoga Springs, 1996) will replace the Basque tenor Xabier Anduaga, who will not be able to perform the expected recital with soprano Serena Sáenz on Saturday in the Carme Church (20:00) due to illness. Hoskins, who will perform with Sáenz, accompanied on the piano by Maciej Pikulski, debuted as the first spirit in The Magic Flute, an opera in which he has also performed as Tamino, and he has also played the roles of Fenton (Falstaff), Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi) and Septimius (Theodora). His performance of Don Curzio (Le nozze di Figaro) took him to the Santa Fe Opera, where he has also played the part of Francis Flute (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) in 2020.
During the 2021/22 season, Jonah debuted in Massanet’s Cendrillon as a deacon of the Faculty in the Metropolitan Opera. He has played Count Almaviva (The Barber of Seville) at the Penascola Opera and the Santa Fe Opera, where he has also played the role of the sailor in Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde.
Hoskins has participated in several well-known programmes for young artists such as Des Moines Metro Opera, Ohio Light Opera and HGO's Young Artist Vocal Academy. What’s more, he has been recognised in renowned international competitions: in Autumn 2021 he received the second award at Plácido Domingo’s Operalia Competition in the Bolshoi Theatre, the Extraordinary Artistic Promise Award at the Lotte Lenya Competition and first place at the National Opera Association in 2019.
Hoskins’ stepping in for Anduaga means the programme that had been planned and announced for this concert may be subject to change.
