NOMINATION AT THE OPERA AWARDS

NOMINATION AT THE OPERA AWARDS

The opera Don Juan no existe. Sobre lo que olvidamos y lo que permanece, commissioned by Festival Perelada and co-produced with the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Teatro de la Maestranza, with the participation of Teatro Real and Teatros del Canal, has been nominated at the prestigious International Opera Awards 2025 in the category of Best World Premiere.

Premiered on August 8, 2024 at the Mirador del Castell de Peralada, this chamber opera in two acts, with music by Helena Cánovas —winner of the Carmen Mateu Award 2021—, libretto by Alberto Iglesias, stage direction by Bàrbara Lluch and musical direction by Jhoanna Sierralta, pays tribute to all the women who throughout history have been silenced and erased simply for being women.

The International Opera Awards, founded in 2012 by philanthropist Harry Hyman, are regarded as the most important awards in the field worldwide. Their aim is to recognise excellence in all areas of opera and to give international visibility to productions, theatres and artists. In addition, through the Opera Awards Foundation, the prizes support the development of young emerging talents from around the world.

The nomination of Don Juan no existe for Best World Premiere represents a step forward in the international projection of Festival Perelada and reinforces its commitment to contemporary creation and to supporting new voices and languages in the operatic scene.
