Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno, by George Friedrich HÄNDEL
W.CHRISTIE & LES ARTS FLORISSANTS
BAROQUE AT ITS FINEST
This summer, the Perelada Festival is hosting a unique event with a performance of Georg Friedrich Händel's Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno, conducted by William Christie and featuring his renowned ensemble, Les Arts Florissants. Composed in 1707, this first oratorio by the young Händel blends the Italian operatic tradition with profound moral reflection, foreshadowing the qualities that would define his artistic maturity.
The libretto, by Cardinal Benedetto Pamphili, offers a fascinating allegorical confrontation between Beauty, Peace, Time and Disillusionment, a metaphor about the struggle between fleeting beauty and enduring wisdom.
With a structure similar to that of a secular cantata, the score alternates betweens recitatives, arias and duets of great technical and expressive complexity, culminating in the iconic aria "Tu del Ciel ministro eletto", which concludes with a pianissimo unheard of in Händel's catalogue.
Les Arts Florissants, the ensemble founded by Christie in 1979, is renowned for its dedication to the Baroque style and its extraordinary interpretative sensitivity. This performance is part of William Christie's international tour celebrating his 80th birthday. As part of this celebration, the maestro will be awarded the Medal of Honour of the Perelada Festival in recognition of his outstanding career.
An unmissable event to experience a Baroque gem, in the hands of one of its most distinguished performers.
