FRANZ SCHUBERT FILHARMONIA & COR FRANCESC VALLS
MISSES DE MOZART I SCHUBERT
Intimacy, lyricism and spirituality between Classicism and Romanticism
The Perelada Festival presents a concert to immerse oneself in the sacred music of Mozart and Schubert, two geniuses separated by generations but united by the pursuit of beauty, feeling and spirituality. The Franz Schubert Philharmonia, under the direction of Guillermo García Calvo, and with a vocal cast including Yewon Han (soprano), Marcela Rahal (mezzo), Filipe Manu (tenor), Manuel Fuentes (bass), all four Peralada Festival Prize winners of the Tenor Viñas Competition in different editions, together with the Francesc Valls Choir, will perform the motet Ave verum corpus and the Missa brevis in G major, KV 49 by Mozart, along with the Mass in G major, D 167 by Schubert.
Mozart, at only 12 years old, composed his Missa brevis, absorbing the Salzburg stile antico, showing an early mastery of academic counterpoint and a clear and functional musicality for liturgical service. The motet Ave verum corpus, written almost at the end of his life, condenses in 46 bars an intimate and universal spirituality, where each modulation and each homophonic texture seem to sigh with devotion.
Schubert, later, at 18 years old, recreates the model of the short mass in his Mass in G major, D 167, combining the sobriety of counterpoint with a pastoral lyricism and a human and spiritual expression that anticipates the sensitivity of Romanticism. The interaction between soloists, choir and strings, as well as the discreet harmonic modulation, generates moments of gratitude, hope and reflection.
This Easter Sunday matinée will allow the audience to experience the magic of Austrian classicism and the early lyricism of Romanticism, listening to how Mozart and Schubert, separated in time, capture the depth of faith and human expression through sacred music.
