BAYREUTH FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA
WHERE GOLD RETURNS TO THE RIVER

The Perelada Festival presents a special concert at the Palau de la Música Catalana, bringing together the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra under the baton of Pablo Heras-Casado. An event that transcends the Festival's usual framework, it stands out as a performance of great musical significance, in dialogue with a city deeply connected to the Wagnerian tradition.
Inextricably linked to the world of Richard Wagner, the Bayreuth orchestra is not a permanent ensemble in the conventional sense, but a musical body that comes together each summer to pursue a very specific interpretative ideal. Its sound -dense, flexible, shaped by the balance between the orchestra pit and stage- responds to a tradition passed down not only in writing, but also through practice and the experience accumulated over generations.
The programme offers a journey through excerpts from Der Ring des Nibelungen, one of the most ambitious musical works in history. More than a succession of scenes, these excerpts articulate a symbolic universe in which nature, myth and the human condition unfold through orchestral writing of great density and dramatic precision.
In this context, Pablo Heras-Casado's conducting takes on special significance. The Granada-born conductor, whose career spans historical repertoire and contemporary creation, has developed in recent years a profound relationship with Wagner’s work, approaching it with a combination of structural clarity and dramatic intensity.
The participation of leading Wagnerian voices such as Catherine Foster, Klaus Florian Vogt and Nicholas Brownlee reinforces the exceptional nature of this concert, which also marks the beginning of the orchestra’s Spanish tour. Beyond the repertoire, it offers an insight into an approach to music-making shaped over the long term, through the continuity of a practice and the constant search for a distinctive sound.
As part of the Festival’s fortieth anniversary celebrations, this event stands out as a unique occasion. Not only is it a commemoration, but also an affirmation of a legacy that extends towards new partnerships and a shared vision.
