Soprano Sonya Yoncheva has been crowned as one of the most acclaimed and interesting artists of her generation. She adds to her particularly gifted vocal instrument a powerful personality, incredible beauty and a commanding stage presence. Yoncheva studied piano and voice in the city of her birth with Nelly Koitcheva. Later, she obtained her master’s degree in Geneva with Danielle Borst and started her career at William Christie’s academy, Le Jardin des Voix. Her big step up to opera, however, did not take place until 2010 after winning the Operalia singing contest. Yoncheva seduces audiences with the beautiful timbre of her voice, her great vocal agility and refined technique at every performance. Her rich repertoire embraces very diverse roles from ancient music to the grand operatic repertoire. A Sony Classical recording artist, she recently joined the select few to have given a solo recital on the stage of New York’s Metropolitan Opera. A recital that included lyrical songs from the French and Italian romantic repertoire, mostly on the theme of unrequited, doomed or lost love, which she will perform this summer in Peralada. Accompanied on the piano by the exquisite Malcolm Martineau, they will perform songs by Duprac, Viardot, Martucci and Tosti as well as songs by great operatic composers such as Donizetti, Puccini and Verdi. Lyricism and many colours for a high-voltage debut.
