BENJAMIN APPL
Baritone Benjamin Appl (Regensburg, 1982) began his training as a chorister at the Regensburger Domspatzen and continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, before eventually training at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. A pupil of the legendary Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Appl is recognised as one of the most brilliant Lieder and oratorio singers of his generation, acclaimed by critics and audiences alike in recitals, concerts, and operas. His astonishingly beautiful, lyrical voice, described as "belonging to the last great masters of the art of Lieder" and with "an almost infinite range of colours" (Süddeutsche Zeitung), is ideal for interpreting Romantic composers such as Brahms and Schubert, Baroque composers such as Handel and Bach, and post-Romantic composers like Mahler, among others.
Since 2016, Appl has been an exclusive singer for Sony Classical, and has begun a collaboration with Alpha Classics, whose first album, Winterreise, was released in February 2021 to notable acclaim. This Easter, the young baritone will make his debut at the Perelada Festival with the Vespres d'Arnadí Orchestra, conducted by Dani Espasa, in a concert that will include masterpieces such as the moving Ich habe genug, BWV 82 by Bach and the powerful Incipit Lamentatio by Zelenka. A spiritual journey through Baroque music that promises to move the contemporary listener with timeless works.
