Bernat VIVANCOS
RESPONSORIA HEBDOMADAE SANCTAE
EASTER RESPONSORIES
BETWEEN THE EARTHLY AND THE DIVINE
The Perelada Festival presents the world premiere of an exceptional work: the Easter Responsories by Bernat Vivancos. Commissioned especially for the occasion, this new work by the Catalan composer consists of nine responsories, three for each of the main liturgical days of Easter (Feria V in Coena Domini, Feria VI in Parasceve and Sabbato Santo).
Vivancos, whose early training at the Escolanía de Montserrat and close ties with this institution — of which he was musical director from 2007 to 2014 — have profoundly shaped his auditory imagery, presents a deep meditation on Easter in this new work. His knowledge of ecclesiastical language and the influence of composers from the Spanish Renaissance, such as Tomás Luis de Victoria, are central to his style. As he himself has pointed out, his participation at the age of 11 in the recording of Victoria's Lamentations made a strong impression on him, particularly due to the "sacred emotion" and the connection between the notes and the sacred text, which influenced his vision of music as a vehicle for spirituality.
The work, which will be premiered on Good Friday, will be performed by the prestigious Latvian Radio Choir — regarded as one of the best choirs in the world — under the direction of Sigvards Klava. With this new project, the Perelada Festival reinforces its role as a catalyst for contemporary musical creation, further consolidating its vision of renewed spirituality through the unique language that music offers.
