SONS DE L’ÂME - 50 anniversary

HOUSTON BALLET

HOUSTON BALLET
PURE DANCE IN MUSICAL MOVEMENT

With choreography by the artistic director of the Houston Ballet, Stanton Welch, and with the pieces for piano of Frédéric Chopin, Sons de l’âme premièred on 31 October 2013 at the prestigious Théâtre des Champs Élysées in Paris, the same theatre where Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes presented the creation of The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky, with choreography by Nijinsky. With sixteen Houston Ballet dancers and prestigious concert pianist Lang Lang, the ballet displayed a unique collaboration between dancer and music. A show of pure beauty that is coming to the Festival Castell de Peralada this year after conquering audiences and critics alike. A sublime and traditional work with the musical basis of Chopin (nocturnes, ballades, waltzes, etudes, etc.) performed live by a pianist. Sons de l’âme is a choreography that highlights the company's transformation, raising the level of classical technique combined with a renewed energy, drive and vision. An inspirational and thoroughly hypnotic experience for a summer’s evening.
